Master of Social Work
Bharata Mata College is a nationally accredited 'A+' grade co-educational arts and science institution in the aided sector, managed by the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly under the Bharata Mata Educational Trust. The Bharata Mata School of Social Work (BMSSW) was established in 2004 with vibrant faculty and two committed student batches. From its inception, the school focused on instilling professional discipline and personal development. It offers a well-structured curriculum enriched by a globally oriented academic approach and a faculty with extensive qualifications and experience. The MSW program integrates theory, practice, and research, with a strong commitment to addressing societal needs, particularly in the local community.
BMSSW engages in activities ranging from micro-level interventions to macro-level policy advocacy. The department aims to cultivate an inclusive environment and provide equal opportunities, shaping students into socially responsible citizens. Faculty members serve as the backbone of the program with their expertise and research excellence. Recognizing social work as a dynamic profession, the school is dedicated to enhancing the social functioning of various populations, empowering vulnerable groups, and advocating for social and economic justice. The college also fosters community engagement through outreach and collaboration.
To deepen its social impact, the college launched its own registered NGO, "BeFORE" (Bharata Mata Extension for Organic, Research and Environment), on August 9, 2017, under the Travancore Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act, 12 of 1955. This initiative enhances the institution’s commitment to societal development through partnerships and networking with multiple stakeholders. In addition, the student-led association BVOIC (Bharata Mata Venture for Organizing Inclusive Community) was registered on August 2, 2023, under the same Act. BVOIC envisions a world that ensures equal access and opportunities for all, guided by principles of inclusivity, diversity, empowerment, equality, and sustainability, essential for holistic community progress.
Marking a new milestone, the department introduced a BSW (Honours) degree program in 2024 with an initial enrollment of 40 students.
