ECO DAY 2018 – WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY- Dept. of Zoology

The Department of Zoology, Bharata Mata College, Thrikkakara in collaboration with Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) celebrated World Environment Day celebrations (ECO – DAY 2018) as a whole day programme with the focal theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ on 05. 06. 2018. The day’s events began with a formal inauguration by renowned environmentalist Prof. M. K. Prasad, Retd. Pro-Vice Chancellor of Calicut University. Our college manager Rev. Fr. Jacob G Palackappilly, Principal Dr. Shiny Palaty, Vice-Principals and several faculty members were present on the occasion. This was followed by a Lecture on the topic “Plastic Pollution – a new menace in the environment” by Prof. M K Prasad. Participants were shown a documentary titled “The Plastic Cow” which conveyed the message of how over usage of plastics and their negligent disposals by humans can adversely affect the environment and other animals. An interactive session was held after this during which students actively participated and shared their ideas and views of how to minimize plastic usage and be more eco friendly. Intercollegiate essay writing (Title:‘An Ecofriendly Campus – need of the hour’) and painting (Title: ‘Only one Earth – Care and Share’) competitions were held on the same day. The last event of the day’s programme was a two hour training given to students on ‘How to make paper bags and Paper pens’ so as to replace plastic bags and pens with these items as far as possible. The programme was concluded at 4:30pm.
