The PG Department of English was upgraded to the Research Centre in English under Mahatma Gandhi University in October 2023. The Centre currently has four research guides with thrust areas that include ELT, Cultural Studies, Media Studies, Music, Museum Studies, Emergent Algorithmic Governance, and Science and Technology Studies (STS). The research faculty of the Centre are equipped with experience in project management, publication in SCOPUS and Web of Science-listed journals, and have received research grants and fellowships from the ICSSR, Yale University, Harvard University, the Charles Wallace Trust, and the British Council. The Centre currently hosts ten research scholars with diverse interdisciplinary areas of research and publications. Ever since its inception in 2023, the Centre has been having a promising nascent phase with multiple research workshops, invited talks and coursework sessions offered for scholars across the state.
The Department of English at Bharata Mata College provides a vibrant and supportive research environment for its scholars. From the very beginning, research scholars are guided through a structured coursework program that equips them with theoretical foundations, research methodology, and critical approaches essential for advanced academic inquiry. The department also hosted a ten-session Ph.D. coursework, conducted online and open to scholars from across M.G. University, ensuring wider participation and academic collaboration.
Scholars engage in half-yearly presentations to present their progress, receive constructive feedback, and refine their research trajectory under continuous mentorship from faculty guides. The department actively encourages its researchers to participate in paper presentations, publications, and national and international conferences, building confidence and visibility in the academic community. Regular participation in workshops and training sessions further enhances their research and professional skills.
In addition, scholars are supported in applying for scholarships and fellowships, enabling them to strengthen their academic journey and gain wider exposure. Through this integrated model of mentorship, academic rigor, and professional engagement, the Department of English ensures that its research scholars are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to scholarship and society.
